Hungry hungry Hags

2008 July 20

So we were still plugging away at blog construction. And we still had no idea what the hell we’re doing. Progress was ripping along at the speed of west-bound traffic through a Gary, Indiana work-zone. All that scratching and cursing was making us quite hungry.

We decide to take our chances with what looked like a popular local restaurant, the Tin Lizzie Cafe on Alt US 45 at the north end of West Point. Located on the west side of the highway, they have plenty of truck parking and easy access. When you first walk in you’re sure you’ve seen the place before. Low lighting, lots of dark wood, and metal advertising signs hanging on the walls for decoration. Comfortable. But nothing unusual. Until you notice how very clean everything seems. And lets face it that is pretty unusual, at least in places that trucks can get to.

We ordered the 14oz ribeye cooked medium and the blackened catfish. Along with mushrooms and fried chicken wings to start things off, and pecan pie for dessert. Everything to-go. We almost always get our orders to-go. First because I want to smoke right after my meal without rushing back out to the truck, and second because we really don’t want to hang out with y’all. Nothing personal.

Anyway, our order was finished in about 25 minutes and our waitresses Pam and Christy checked everything carefully before sending me out the door. That’s good service. I hate it when I get a to-go order and get back to the truck only to find out they forgot crap. This time the order was perfect.

The chicken wings and mushrooms were quite good. The mushrooms were kinda unusual. But good unusual. The baked potatoes were actually fresh baked not baked two days ago and microwaved. The salads were nice and fresh. My blackened catfish was very good. I can’t really compare it to other blackened catfish because I’m not sure I’ve ever had it before. But it was very spicy and very tasty. Stace informed me that the steak was cooked perfectly and “one of the best steaks I’ve ever had on the road” which is high praise indeed. Maggie wished there was a bone.

All in all the Tin Lizzie Cafe was a very pleasant surprise. Good atmosphere. Great food. Friendly service that makes you happy your loadĀ delivered in the south. Its a damn shame that we will probably never be in West Point, Mississippi again. Sigh
