Purse sitter
I was heading into the ladies’ restroom in a service plaza in Ohio. Just as I walked into the restroom, I was approached by two very petite elderly ladies. One of them looked up at me and said, “Honey, could you watch our purses for us? Its not safe in here.”
Well I was somewhat shocked, but I said “sure” and held out my hand. I stood there holding the purses debating what I should say to them when they came back out. On the one hand I didn’t want to make them more frightened than they already seemed, on the other they had just handed over both their purses to a total stranger! I didn’t know what to do.
While they were washing their hands, I asked them where they were headed. They told me all about going to visit the grandson of one of the ladies and to meet her new great-grand-baby. I figured out their destination was less than an hour away so I decided not to say anything. I thought they probably wouldn’t stop again. At least I hoped they wouldn’t.
I still wonder if I should have said something.
